When Dick’s Sporting Goods opened in our community in August 2021, I figured that while it would be a great addition to our town — offering everything everyone needs for team sports (there is a basketball in the company’s logo!)— it probably wasn’t going to be an option for winter layers and outerwear. It turns out I was wrong. And when I visited Dick’s for the second time following a virtual blogger’s winter clothing event, I realized that Dick’s is an affordable, convenient place to score a winter fashion refresh — something we can all use during these cold days of January.
Winter Layers for All
Layers are an essential part of winter dressing, whether you’re out playing on the snow, or sitting at your desk writing about playing on the snow, or whatever you’re doing in a colder climate. The styles at Dick’s are basic, but for staying warm, what more do you need? Especially when layering can add that fun pop of color to brighten your day.
And while I am going to focus on Dick’s winter fashion options for women, there are plenty of choices for men and kids, too — especially at Dick’s Sporting Goods online.
Dick’s online is also a good resource for skiing essentials like gloves and helmets, including quite a few helmet options from top-of-the-line SMITH. And while I recently went shopping in person, the Dick’s App is said to be really good for online shopping, and curbside pickup if you find what you need in stock.
Winter Fashion Layers for Women
In a totally throwback move, Patagonia has reupped their famous and fabulous Synchilla Snap-T Fleece Pullover. If don’t already have one of these cozy wonders in your closet or ski bag, it’s about time you did.
Offered in three colors (my favorite being an aurora borealis inspired green and blue), this layer goes over t-shirts for mild days or indoor activities, base layers when you’re taking it to the slopes, and even pajamas when you need that extra warmth while watching a movie or the upcoming Olympics!
And if the Patagonia fleece is just too throwback for you, Dick’s also stocks the Platte Sherpa 1/4 zip fleece from The North Face, with a more modern boxy, short silhouette. And these are just two of many, many choices.
Vests are another layering essential. While I prefer puffy vests as a warming layer under my ski coat — thanks to their excellent squishability — the Carhartt Quilted Canvas Vest for women available at Dick’s is a great option for jetting around town or on a winter hike. Available in three colors, including traditional Carhartt Brown, the Basil version seems to me like it would go with everything!
Winter Fashion Outwear for Women
As a skier, outwear is my winter fashion weakness. I’m always excited to check out new ski pants, ski jackets, and snow boots.
When I visited Dick’s in person last week, after the aforementioned virtual blogger event, I walked out of the store with the warmest jacket I’ve ever owned and a pair of casual Sorel boots.
Here’s what I bought!
Columbia Women’s Mount Si Parka
Not a ski jacket, this long down parka is extra-warm and sturdy for cold walks, snowshoeing in inclement weather, outdoor football and hockey games in cold climates and more. Offering 650 fill power down insulation and Columbia’s patented Omni-Heat reflective warmth retention, I am thrilled with this coat. I often find myself out and about in the snow during the early morning or at twilight and this coat, so far, has kept me warm — beautifully. One word: Extreme.
In addition to the Columbia Mount Si Parka, Dick’s has lots of choices from The North Face, Patagonia and more. Some of the options online are even on sale right now!
Sorel Women’s Explorer II Joan Felt Boots
Part snow boot, part sneaker, this up-to-the minute waterproof felt and leather combo keeps earning me compliments, whether I’m wearing the Explorer II Joan boots to work or for play. The most comfortable winter boots I’ve ever had, I’d consider wearing them as slippers on cold nights, if I hadn’t already dirtied the soles when crunching through the snow. One word: Best.
As with jackets, Dick’s has a lot of other winter boots for women. One pair I liked, but couldn’t find in-store in my size are these Chelsea boots from Alpine Designs. But go online and look. There are so many good options.
Other Women’s Outerwear From Dick’s Sporting Goods
Need new ski pants? Dick’s has ‘em, including these well-priced basics from The North Face. Other brands include Spyder, Obermeyer, Burton and Mountain Hardware.
And as mentioned above, there are plenty of ski layers, ski essentials and ski jackets, vests and more to choose from if you’re looking for more technical options.
To facilitate this post, Dick’s Sporting Goods provided me with a gift card to purchase items of my choosing to review. I was not influenced in purchasing any items. As always, all opinions are my own and are exactly what I would tell my family and friends.
