About a year ago, a friend found this book — A Season in the Snow — and gave it to me. This is the same friend who, with her son, found a 15th Century painting on Facebook Marketplace, so she is good at finding stuff. A Season in the Snow by Steven Merrick Braun is neither as interesting nor as valuable as the painting she and her family located, but as a look back to the 1980s and the lives of two characters who love skiing (and one another), it’s an amusing read. Thus, rather than consign it to the Little Free Library in my neighborhood, I’ve got a book giveaway going on now.
A Season in the Snow: What the Cover Says
“A story to curl up with before a cozy fire while the snow falls outside.”
“A fun, honest, warm, whimsical slice of ski life!”
“Thrill to the exciting and poignant adventures of the Merlyns, a young couple with a unique passion for life and for skiing.”
None of these comments have attributions, so I assume they were crafted by the author, Steven Merrick Braun, to push his own book. Reading the book, I also got the idea that this is Braun’s story, disguised only ever so slightly. And while I may be wrong, I found one of the more intriguing aspects of this light read in trying to identify the resorts the Merlyns are visiting.
As for Braun, he doesn’t really show up anywhere online, nor does his publisher, Brave Bear. But in 1988, this book sold for $8.95 and the purchaser liked it enough — and apparently shared it enough — to warrant two name and address stamps on the inside cover and frontpiece.
And so the life of A Season in the Snow continues, as I pass it on to one of you!
