Update as of April 23, 2019 regarding Tate McDowell from Lora McDowell, his wife.

Tate did a miraculous climb of the Grand in August 2018 during a freak snowstorm (that turned most parties around that day). He’d been pulled off of an immunotherapy trial the week before with double vision revealing new lesions, did a quick chemo infusion starting on Wednesday. He had the chemo pump taken off on Friday, before hopping a plane to Jackson hours later. He was climbing by Sunday.

Tate’s still on treatments and actively searching for clinical trials.

Hi all. Breaking the summer sabbatical for something important today — the latest from Teton Gravity Research.

Cancer touches us all. As a cancer survivor, I have to share this 30 minute film. It’s heartbreaking, real and wise. It’s the story of two men, Brian McDonnell and Tate McDowell, fighting cancer while inspired by the Grand Teton and their goal of climbing it, together.

Colorectal cancer is increasing among young healthy adults. If you have symptoms of colorectal cancer, don’t let anyone tell you you’re too young. Seek medical care.

(Please note, when I previewed this post, the embedded film took an extra minute to load. I promise, it’s worth it, especially if you bump it up to full screen.)

Thanks to the team at Teton Gravity Research for sharing this with me. I am honored to share Tate’s and Brian’s story.

I saw it this morning. Loved it. Moving, touching, important … and beautifully told.

Some of the scenes are so touching and personal. Both men are very brave to share such private moments. Amazing.

I made an inquiry about how Tate and Brian are doing. If I hear anything back, I’ll be sure to post it. Thanks.

Okay, here’s the answer on Brian and Tate. “They are doing better. Tate is going for the Grand in a few weeks.” Tate, we wish you every success and can’t wait to see the photos from the top!
