The Online Family Ski School Is Back With a New Focus (Fun and Games)

You spoke. We listened.

When Alyssa Erickson of The Kid Project, Susan Strayer of Mountain Mom and Tots, and I created the Online Family Ski School in 2018, our goal was to give parents the tools they needed to get their kids on snow and help teach children to ski.

And we did a good job of it.

But what we found is that parents who ski already know a lot of the basics, like how to dress your child, helping your child put on skis, and so on.

We also found that, like us, most parents start their kids in PSIA ski school classes. Going with a Pro is something we have always supported and promoted. It’s the best way to learn.

(For information on getting your kids ready for ski and snowboard school, click here!)

Where we found our lessons came in handy was in supporting what kids learn from their instructors after they finish ski school.

And your feedback told us that the most valuable aspect of the Online Family Ski School were the on-snow games we suggest for helping kids cement their PSIA-taught skills.

New Emphasis, Lower Price

So for this season, we’ve reimagined the Online Family Ski School. Go to our class website, and you’ll see that the emphasis is on learning through playing with your kids.

Nathan Jarvis is a PSIA Children’s Specialist at Park City, Utah. When I spoke to him this fall for an article, he was adamant that parents shouldn’t “work” or “practice” with their children, they should “play” with them.

(Why you should never teach your loved ones to ski)

Jarvis wisely recommends asking your child’s instructor “What is the one thing my child and I (or spouse and I) should play with to get better?”

We think this is a brilliant question. And to help support you as you play with your children on snow, we’ve got games and tips to help you enjoy every moment together with your children as they learn to ski.

And yes, because we’ve narrowed the focus of the course, the Online Family Ski School is $35 for unlimited access. Plus, you can still access all other content — like how to dress your child and so on — if you need it.

The Online Family Ski School Facebook Group

Whether or not you enroll your family in our online course, we invite you to join our open Online Family Ski School Facebook community.

We’re just getting it started and we’d love to have you as part of our ski family community! You don’t have to enroll in the course. Just come and share your insights, ask questions and learn from other ski parents.

Thanks and please let us know if you have any questions.

Cheers!
