Welcome to this year’s BSM Holiday Gift Guide, featuring our favorite products of 2016.
In addition to featuring gift ideas for women, men and children, we’re thrilled to have two weeks of giveaways.
The first one starts today and you’ll find more information in the product descriptions and at the end of this post.
Head to Toe
Buff USA: Merino Wool Buff, the Polar Buff and the Knit Headband
Find a gift for anyone with Buff USA. While my current crushes are the Merino Wool Buff, the Polar Buff and the Knit Headband, Buff USA also has scarves, gloves, balaclavas and more for women, men and juniors. Giveaway Post: Saturday, November 19.
Children’s Beanies, Mittens and Gloves from kushi-riki “Share the Warmth”
A new brand from the founders of Candygrind and CG Habitats, kushi-riki makes adorable, cozy and super-cute mittens, beanies and gloves for kids ages 2-13. They donate 100% of their “healthy profit goals” to international charities that help children. This year, a.k.a. Hope, a non-profit providing housing and education to children in Uganda, is the kushi-riki beneficiary.
These are lovely gifts that do good. Giveaway Post: Monday, November 21.
Beautiful Baselayers from Lon Gundie
I love that Lon Gundie makes beautifully patterned baselayers for women, men and juniors. The fabric is substantial and ultra soft. You won’t want to cover them up or take them off. Giveaway Post: Monday, November 28, 2016.
Functional, beautiful, well-made midlayers from Woolpower
For a special gift that is also 100% functional, check out Woolpower’s Kids Vest 400 and the Full Zip Jacket 400 for adults. Made from Woolpower’s signature terry loop fabric, these cozy choices take on the outdoors by themselves and as an extra layer on frigid days. Or, stuff their stockings with socks and baselayers. Giveaway Post: Wednesday, November 23, 2016.
Backcountry comfort and ease from Andie’s Outdoor Undies
For the active women in your life who adventure in the backcountry. Comfortable, well-designed and discreet, these baselayers let you “go” without baring your bum. Click here for my October review. Also, on November 19th, save $20 on every order from Andie’s Outdoor Undies, using this code: CMM20166.
Icelandic Design Sweaters
Keep the ski trip vibe alive, where ever you may be. Beautifully patterned, with up-to-date styling, Icelandic Designs sweaters, jackets and skirts make beautiful gifts. Crafted of a 50/50 blend of wool and acrylic, the sweaters are warm, yet lightweight, making them easy to pack for your next ski vacation.
*The Icelandic Design Warehouse Sale is December 2 – 10th in Longmont, Colorado.
Stio Harkin Insulated Jacket in Poseidon Skier
Help him channel his inner ski bum. The Harkin Jacket is the perfect marriage of a vintage ‘70s powder shirt and a to-the-moment puffy coat.
Lightly insulated and fully reversible, the Poseidon side features box quilting, a zip chest pocket and two open pockets in the side seams. The skier side features shirt styling with a back yoke and two front snap close pockets made of slick DWR-treated fabric.
Available in a black or blue skier print or choose one of Stio’s floral options for an urban look. Also available in the Harkin Snap shirt.
Beautiful Ski and Après Clothes from SKEA Limited
Finding a word to sum up SKEA Limited’s beautiful, fashion-forward ski and après clothing is easy: zippers. No one, but no one, knows how to use zippers to punctuate a look like SKEA.
Check out the Makayla Wool Skirt. See the zippers. They make the look.
SKEA Limited’s Kira ski pants for women and Cargo Pants for girls stand out for the same reason: cool zippers.
For an unforgettable visual impact, check out the blindingly unique Hologram Vest. Hologram fabric is available in other styles including a puffy skirt and ski pants.
For more of SKEA Limited’s well-made and beautifully functional winter looks, click here.
Stio Shot 7 Down Jacket
Here’s what I had to say about this Stio jacket last winter: “It’s a ski coat that doesn’t scream ski coat” and it’s the “one and only ski coat you’ll need.”
Available for 2016-17 in two new colors, magnet (aka grey) and ponderosa (aka dark green), it’s a solid choice for on-resort and backcountry skiers.
Mountain Khakis’ Ooh La La Down Coat
If you’re craving a full length down coat, the Ooh La La could be for you. The fit is flattering with princess seams and a gathered waist, but it’s not tight, so you can step out without hesitation.
My favorite detail? The very cozy, puffy collar. It’s like wearing a sleeping bag. Also available in smoke (light grey). Giveaway Post: Wednesday, November 30, 2016.
Kamik Winter Boots
For over 100 years, Canadian boot maker Kamik has made highly functional winter footwear.
Styles range from utilitarian (for hunting or snowmobiling) to high-fashion (urban or après ski) and fit everyone from toddlers to adults.
I’ve tried their rain boots. They’re well made and comfortable (although I had to order a size up). Giveaway Post: Friday, December 2, 2016.
Stuff Skiers Appreciate
Kulkea Ski Boot Bags and Backpacks
I’m a broken record: nothing makes ski days easier than a proper backpack with room for each person’s gear.
Whether you’re schlepping boots, helmets and the like for young kids (check out the Tandem Ski Boot Bag), or each person in the family can carry their own backpack, Kulkea has multiple styles and options for adults and kids ages 8 and up. Keep the bags packed. Grab and go. Giveaway Post: Today, November 17.
Mountain Goat Ski/Snowboard Tote
A favorite from last season, the Mountain Goat Ski Tote is a solid choice for hiking with skis. It’s quick, easy, lightweight and it centers your skis or board on your back, rather than on one shoulder. Available in Child, Small, Regular and XL. Here’s my review from last spring. Giveaway Post: Today, November 17.
Winter-themed wooden puzzles from Liberty Puzzles
For good, old-fashioned family fun, nothing beats an heirloom quality wooden puzzle. Colorado-based Liberty Puzzles are beautiful and creative. Each set features uniquely designed “whimsy” pieces themed to the puzzle image. While we love the winter puzzles, designs range from classical art to maps and more.
Colorado Goodies
The Colorado flag is everywhere. If you’ve not yet reached saturation and you want to rep our state (or your favorite ski state), here are four suggestions.
Colorado flag undies from ColoRundies, crocheted headbands and beanies from Akinz, handmade wool bags from The Felted Dog in Pueblo, Colorado and hats, t-shirts and more from Colorado Monty. I have a well-worn ball cap with the skier design (you can also get a snowboarder).
