Do you carry a water bottle when you ski or snowboard?
We do. And it started when we were thirsty and couldn’t find a drinking fountain.
Skiing makes us thirsty and staying hydrated is important when we’re skiing. Not only does hydration help everyone ski and snowboard better, but hydration also keeps us warmer.
A hydrated body is a happy body!
So two years ago when we were skiing in Germany and Austria we were shocked to discover that 1) there were no drinking fountains and 2) the only water available to drink was bottled in plastic.
Solution: A Collapsible Bottle That Fits In a Pocket
I used to ski with a winter hydration pack. For years I considered it a skiing necessity. And then I realized it was both messing up my stance and making chairlift rides awkward.
Now I’m all about the collapsible water bottle. I put it in my coat and fill it when I take breaks. This way my thirst is quenched and I am not adding any more plastic bottles or cups to the waste stream.
(For a sampling of collapsible bottles, please see the listing at the end of this post)
The collapsible bottle is definitely one of our skiing necessities. What are yours?
A Bit More About Bottled Water
The following graphic, which was published in July by Australia’s Water Logic is incredibly informative.
If you haven’t taken steps to eliminate single-use plastic water bottles yet, you will after reading this.
Thanks!

That’s really cool! I hadn’t seen collapsible water bottles before. We all use the insulated bottles for our everyday use, but I think the collapsible ones would be perfect for school as well as sports stuff! Thanks for the great list!

We have a bunch of 8oz HDPE plastic flasks that fit in jacket pockets and flex a bit if you fall on them. They are great for a quick drink on the chairlift. REI used to carry them for a few bucks but haven’t recently.
