One of my favorite summer posts just went live at Liftopia.com.
It’s a favorite because it helps make downhill biking easier for everyone, beginner through expert with practical downhill biking tips from one of my favorite athletes, Birgit Morris, a national champion downhill racer at Marion University.
Before Morris was a badass biker, she was a badass ski racer who began alpine racing with her sister and my two sons.
These four were inseparable and went to Ted Ligety’s Mount Hood, Oregon ski camp together one summer. An experience I still highly recommend for junior ski racers.
Anyway, back to biking.
If you and your kids are ready to try downhill biking this summer — and we hope you are — this article, Downhill Mountain Biking for Everyone, from Liftopia.com will get you started on your strongest pedal!
Check it out!
This video predates Birgit Morris’ college career and was produced when she was in high school. Just imagine her skills now. Envy.

Best tip is to rent a Downhill MTB from the bike park because the trails at these parks are not built your trail or XC MTB. A downhill specific MTB will dramatically increase your fun at these facilities. Also the bikes usually come with full face helmet and body protection. Wear these items.

Really good advice! Kind of like using alpine skis, not xc skis, when you downhill ski. While it may cost a bit more to rent, having the proper gear is the best! Thanks!

Agreed! To take it a step further, you can sometimes save money by renting downhill mountain bikes in town vs. at the mountain — albeit it’ll require you to have a vehicle that can transport the rental bike(s).
If you’re in Denver, the evo Denver Store is a good option!

That’s a good tip. Always good to do a bit of price comparison! Thanks.
