On Friday afternoon, April 3, 2020, Colorado Governor Jared Polis directed all Coloradans to wear face masks whenever they leave their homes to help prevent the spread of COVID 19.
Polis clarified that these face masks do not have to be medical grade and that scarce N 95 masks should be left for medical workers.
This is good news for skiers and snowboarders, because we’ve already got face masks in our ski bags.
Buffs, Balaclavas, Bandanas: Check Your Ski Bag
While the Buff website states that Buff products have not been proven to protect against COVID 19, we figure that Buff face masks are a good place to start, along with clean balaclavas.
I’m washing ours and putting a stack by the door. When someone needs a face mask, they can take a Buff face mask and then throw it in the wash upon return home.
The masks we’re not using are our Seirus neoprene face masks. These are great for for skiing on cold days, but they have way too many holes to keep us safe.
Finally, here’s a video on how to quickly and easily make a bandana face mask, no sewing skills required.
How to Use A Face Mask
Governor Polis is directing those of us in Colorado to wear a face mask every time we leave home.
“It’s time to make mask wearing cool,” he said, explaining that we should wear them to shop and when walking around the neighborhood.
Upon returning home, he suggests putting the face mask in a heated wash and then washing your hands and face.
Stay safe and well. Kristen

I did the same thing. I pulled out and washed all the buffs, balaclavas, and face gaiters. I also realized if I need to add a filter, I can cut up some hepa vacuum bags and add them to the layers. Neither my local Safeway or King Soopers had any employees wearing masks this morning. I am more than a little concerned for their safety.

Great idea on the filter! I 100% agree with you about grocery workers — we’ve seen plenty of shoppers with masks but 99% of employees don’t have them.

I added swifter dusters.

As a filter? Great idea!
