We featured Isbjörn of Sweden in this season’s holiday gift guide. From the moment the review clothing arrived, it was apparent these well-designed and well-made ski clothes from Sweden are among the best ski clothes for kids, anywhere.
There is nothing “dumbed down” and no short-cuts taken on these winter essentials. Even before the snow had fallen, I was pretty sure that I was looking at some of the best kids’ ski jackets and best kids’ ski pants available.
Designed for boys and girls, sizes baby through teen, Isbjörn winter clothing is all about smart layering, beautiful coordinating colors, and high performance. Whether your child chooses a matching ski jacket and ski pants, or you zip them snuggly into a one-piece snowsuit, Isbjorn of Sweden will keep them warm and dry.
(Fun fact: Isbjörn means “ice bear” aka polar bear!)
Snow-Tested by Soren
It’s one thing to inspect new clothing, turn it inside out, zip up all the zippers, and search for technical features. It’s a totally different thing to put a young child in the clothing and out of the snow.
Because the holiday gift guide was published before most ski resorts were open in North America, today we’re sharing the results of Isbjörn’s “on-snow” testing by a Western Colorado snowboarder, with help from his mom. You’ll also get a few of my opinions.
Helicopter Winter Jacket for Kids
A good kids’ ski jacket is essential. And this is a great one. With a price point at $200, the Helicopter winter jacket is an investment, but it’s one that will grow with your child, thanks to a generous cut and cuffs that extend by 3cm. Plus, the available colors are largely gender-neutral, so this is a kids’ ski jacket that can be passed down to others, multiple times.
You can find all the technical details on the Isbjörn website, so suffice it to say that it has them all. My only reservation about the jacket is the lack of interior pockets.
Here’s what Soren’s mom, Sue, has to say:
Soren loves the covered zipper at the chin as well as the super soft material that lines the inside of the jacket at the neck. There is ample room in the sleeves as well as the body length and it will definitely fit him next season as well. The zipper is smooth and easy for Soren which is a plus! He has no problem zipping it himself.
Powder Winter Pant for Kids
These roomy kids’ ski pants have a high waist and adjustable suspenders. Snow gaiters with a rubber stirrup keep the pants in place and the snow out. Pant legs can be extended 3 cm. There is only one small pocket at the waist, which is too bad. Even kids have things they need to carry. The Powder Winter Pant is top-of-the-line for Isbjorn at $180.
But again, these ski/snowboard pants will have a long life and serve many kids.
According to Soren, the kids’ Powder ski pant is comfortable and warm, but the rubber stirrup is annoying. Luckily, it’s easy to unbutton and remove.
Panda Primaloft Hoodie
Made of a buttery, smooth, cuddly fleece fabric, I would wear this hoodie every day. It’s that comforting. The hood is removable and it has a covered zipper at the chin. The sleeves have thumbholes, another cuddly and smart feature. It’s a good winter sports layer or stand-alone jacket on warmer days — whether snowboarding or going to school.
On the downside, as Sue points out, the fit is slim and doesn’t allow much room to grow. However, if you’re planning to use it under a roomy Isbjorn kids’ ski jacket, just order up a size.
Isbjörn also offers kids’ base layer pants in this same yummy fabric (among other options).
Hats and Gloves
In addition to a variety of essential outerwear and layers, Isbjörn can outfit your child from the tips of their fingers to the top of their heads.
Soren tried two hats and a pair of Winterglove gloves. He found the gloves a little frustrating, because he usually wears mittens. Isbjorn makes mittens, too, including for baby. On the upside, Soren reports that the gloves are warm.
As for beanies, Soren tried the Panda beanie, which is good for adding insulation under a helmet, as it has a tight, snug fit. The Sunny Cap, in my opinion, it’s perfect. Made of a 50-50 merino and acrylic blend, it’s super soft, well made and thick. Soren agrees.
The Final Word
I’ll give Soren’s mom Sue the last word: “We are very impressed with the overall quality of everything.”
‘Nuff said.

To facilitate this post, Isbjörn of Sweden provided me with numerous product samples which were passed on for testing and feedback. As always all opinions are my own and are exactly what I would tell my family and friends.
