Sometimes your kids bring home schoolwork that speaks volumes about them. It tells you something they would never tell you themselves. When I read these essays or poems, or look at a painting or drawing, my heart fills up with gratitude for the educators in their lives who can help them bring out their inner person. Or, in the case of our oldest son, his inner skier. Thank you, and welcome back to school.
I AM…..
I am a skier and a mountain person,
I wonder why people are the only creatures to have the knowledge we have,
I hear the silence of falling snow,
I see the mountains covered with fresh snow,
I want to ski in that powder,
I am a skier and a mountain person.
I pretend to be an extreme skier at our local mountain,
I feel exhilarated when I do this,
I touch the light, fluffy powder,
I worry about global warming melting all the snow,
I cry how people destroy everything,
I am a skier and a mountain person.
I understand that skiing is dangerous, but I say if its fun, do it,
I dream about waves and beaches,
I try to have as much fun as possible,
I hope I can ski and mountain bike all my life,
I am a skier and a mountain person.
