Get Outfitted Rents Ski Clothes, and Makes It Easy

March 6, 2015 by braveskimom

get outfitted ski gear
Here’s how happy I am with my Get Outfitted gear. It’s all from them, except my helmet. At Big Sky, Montana.

braveskimom logoTwo years ago, Colorado entrepreneur Julian Flores had a big idea: he wanted to rent top-quality ski and snowboard gear to travelers, shipping it to their destination. He thought it was a perfect way for occasional skiers and snowboarders to save money, without compromising on ski wear. He also thought this service would appeal to people who don’t want to hassle with lots of bags.

It turns out he was right.

He launched Get Outfitted and the business is growing rapidly, with thousands of customers this season alone.

I tried Get Outfitted when my son and I went to Big Sky, Montana. Here’s what I found.

Easy Ordering

Orders are placed via the Get Outfitted website. With selections for men, women, boys and girls, you can rent complete outfits, including a jacket, pants, midlayer, goggles and gloves or individual pieces. You make your choices online, specifying sizes, the dates you’ll be using the clothing and the address where you wish them to ship. You also let them know what’s most important to you: style, function, or warmth.

Place your order and when you get to your hotel or lodge, your box of good stuff will be there.

Amazing Customer Service

A few days before my trip to Montana, a Get Outfitted representative called me to talk about colors. “We’ve learned to ask, because we want you to love wearing these clothes.” I went for a blue jacket and black pants, emphasizing that because I was headed to Montana, they needed to be warm.

Get Outfitted ships via FedEx with packages timed to arrive before you do and they give you the tracking number.

This works great, except when the hotel or lodge locks up your package and you have to wait for the manager to open the room the next morning (a situation that I believe was unique to my experience).

Since I had the tracking I knew my clothes had arrived and that they’d eventually be delivered to me. What I didn’t anticipate was how much opening the box felt like Christmas.

Like an onion, there are layers under layers in each GetOutfitted.com box. Unlike an onion, they won’t ever make you cry.

Great Clothing

Obviously, I’ve only tried the women’s gear, but I received a Marmot jacket and pants, along with a Patagonia midlayer, goggles with interchangeable lenses, gloves and liners. Everything fit perfectly and was in pristine condition.

Get Outfitted cleans their gear carefully after each use to preserve water resistance and performance. In addition to the types of gear I rented, you can also rent GoPros and baselayers.

Beneath the Marmot jacket, Patagonia mid-layer and Marmot pants, we find glove liners, gloves and goggles.

Easy Returns

When I was done using the gear, I just bundled it all into a shipping bag with a prepaid label provided by Get Outfitted. I left it at the front desk of the hotel and they mailed it for me.

Important Tips

I have no complaints about Get Outfitted in terms of service or quality, but I do recommend two things.

  1. Provide as complete an address as you can, including your arrival date if possible. This will help your hotel get your gear to you quickly.
  2. Make sure you are honest and careful about sizing. You want everything to fit perfectly. If you’ve got questions or concerns, call Get Outfitted and talk to them. They are happy to help and often discuss sizing with clients.

Enjoy!

Coupon Code

My timing isn’t terrific with this, but if you reserve clothing today you can use this code (SB-37a5ts399tcde7df) before it pulls a Cinderella and expires at midnight tonight. It’s worth 15% off your order.

To facilitate this post, Get Outfitted rented me a Women’s Premium Complete Outfit for two days, at no cost. As always, all opinions are my own and are exactly what I would tell my family and friends.
