Calling All Kids: Share Your BEST Day Ever on Snow!

July 21, 2020 by braveskimom

Want to be an author? This is the cover of a new ebook that we hope to create with YOUR help! ©smartfulkids

Hey skiing and snowboarding kids! Do you have a story to share about your best day ever on snow? If so, we want to read it and share it with the world!

Now you may be thinking, “It’s summer, why should I be remembering my best day ever on snow, when right now I’m having my best day ever on a mountain bike or at the beach?”

Good question!

But here’s why: Because right now, internationally-known, award-winning illustrator and PSIA Children’s Specialist, Nathan Y Jarvis and the Brave Ski Mom (not your mom, who is also brave and skis, but me) are putting together the 1st Annual Illustrated Anthology of Kids’ Best Day Ever on Snow stories!

Wondering what an anthology is? It’s a “published collection of pieces of writing.” That’s right, an anthology is a book, or in the case of this 1st annual anthology, an ebook.

If you submit a story and it’s among the thirteen chosen for the ebook, Nathan will illustrate your story with his beautiful, funny, original art. By the way, his nickname is Silly Nathan, and when you look at his pictures, you’ll know why.

Even if your story isn’t chosen for the book, we will feature additional stories — along with Nathan’s art — here at braveskimom.com.

You, and your best day ever on snow, could  be famous!

At the very least, you’ll become a published author. That’s pretty cool. And something you should get extra credit for when you go back to school.

So, now is your time to shine, to share your best day ever on snow whether you’re a skier or a snowboarder, and help inspire other kids and families to fall in love with winter!

The Details

We are currently collecting written submissions via this form.

Submissions are open to kids in grades Kindergarten through 7th.

Written submissions are limited to 250 words. For  children who do not yet write that much, parents can take dictation, but we encourage parents to be true to their children’s speech and sentiments!

In addition to the child’s best day ever on snow story, we are collecting their best tips to inspire other kids. You’ll see room on the form for sharing this information.

The deadline for submission is 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2020.

We will announce the stories chosen to be featured in the ebook no later than August 15, 2020. Honorable mention stories, which will be featured on braveskimom.com, will be announced at that time, too.

Because the book will also contain kid-to-kid tips, parent tips and Pro tips, we are planning to release the book in mid-October prior to the beginning of the northern ski season.

All submissions must be in English.

Please note that all submissions become the property of Smartful Kids and braveskimom.com and may be used for promotional purposes as well as featured in publication. Also, to protect privacy, we will refer to chosen authors by their first name and last initial only.

In addition to having their work featured, kids whose stories are illustrated in the anthology will receive a frameable print of the art created for their story, signed by Nathan, a signed copy of A-B-Skis, and a free copy of the ebook.

Please reach out with any questions!

Many thanks, Kristen and Nathan
