Aquaphor $3000 Winter Gear Sweepstakes (and $50 Giveaway)

February 15, 2012 by braveskimom

Yes, this look will protect your skin from Winter. But do you really want to look like this all the time?

This post is way out of the ordinary for me. As many of you know, I’ve been privileged to have been a member of the Eucerin Skin First Network. This has allowed me to try a bunch of great skin care products, as well as offer fun and valuable giveaways to you, my dear readers.

The Skin First Network promotion ended in December, but Eucerin is back this winter with a $3,000 Winter Gear Sweepstakes promoting their Aquaphor line. Yes, you read that right. Enter at Facebook for a chance to win $3,000 worth of winter outdoor gear from REI.

And just in case you don’t win the big prize, Aquaphor is providing Brave Ski Mom readers with an additional giveaway: a gift pack containing Aquaphor Lip Repair, Aquaphor Healing Ointment and a $50 VISA gift card. Not quite $3,000 in winter sports gear, but it’s a start. To enter, simply leave a comment telling me how you’ll spend the $3,000 when you win it.

Product Reviews

A couple of years ago, we had friends visiting from Germany. One of them, noticing that I never leave home (or my bathroom) without lip balm asked me if I was addicted. “No,” I answered. “It’s just life in the desert.” It doesn’t matter if you live below sea level in Death Valley, or high in the Colorado Rockies, the interior western states are dry. Winter exacerbates this dryness, with lower relative humidity and cold temperatures. Plus, let’s face it. Most of us who live in the west want to be outdoors as much as we can. Dry skin, dry lips: it’s a fact of life.

Aquaphor Healing Ointment

I first tried Aquaphor Healing Ointment last winter. Now this thick, clear ointment is best friend to my hands and my heels. Aquaphor Healing Ointment is odorless and rubs in without too much stickiness. But it doesn’t disappear. Because it lasts so long and can be a bit sticky, I use it at night. I think it really does help heal wintertime cracks on my thumbs and fingers.

As for windburn, I wouldn’t hesitate to give Aquaphor Healing Ointment a try (but please note, I haven’t been windburnt this season — knock on wood — so I don’t have any first hand knowledge).

Finally, while I am hardly an endurance athlete, when I visited the Carmichael Training Center last March, I was told that Aquaphor Healing Ointment makes a great butt butter (that’s for you, all you cyclists!).

Aquaphor Lip Repair

Aquaphor Lip Repair is new to me with this review. Waxless, with just a little shine, Lip Repair contains shea butter, vitamins C and E, and chamomile. Aquaphor Lip Repair is designed to provide immediate relief for damaged lips and to seal in moisture. I find that while it offers initial relief, I need to reapply it more frequently than my wax based lip balms. In addition, because it doesn’t have any SPF protection, it’s not good for use outdoors during the day. Still, if your lips are trashed, give it a try. It definitely goes on light and easy and won’t hurt irritated, cracked lips (which are precisely the lips for which it is designed).

Eucerin Professional Repair Extremely Dry Skin Lotion

As long as I’m on the topic of dry skin and winter, I also have to mention a brand-spankin’-new product: Eucerin Professional Repair Extremely Dry Skin Lotion. I received a sample of this product last week. This is a very thick, rich lotion with staying power. I put some on before going to bed and could still feel it in the morning. That’s a long time for lotion — almost too long!  Formulated to “lock in” moisture, it seems to do a darn good job.

While I don’t recommend it as an all-purpose lotion (it’s too rich and feels a bit “sticky”), it does help with chronic dry skin. On a spectrum of lotions, I would place Professional Repair between Aquaphor Healing Ointment (used sparingly on specific areas of acute need) and Eucerin Calming Itch-Relief (appropriate as a lighter body lotion).  (Please note: This lotion contains Alpha Hydroxy Acid, which is great for smoothing skin, but increases the skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Cover up!)

Giveaway

One winner of a $50 VISA gift card, Aquaphor Lip Repair and Aquaphor Healing Ointment will be chosen in a random drawing on February 22, 2012.

The Aquaphor $3000 Winter Sports Gear Sweepstakes is subject to its own rules and entry requirements. To enter, visit this link on Facebook.

Good luck!

As always, all opinions expressed in this post are my own and are exactly what I would tell my family and friends.

To facilitate this post, I received the same prize pack that is being given away (Aquaphor Healing Ointment, Aquaphor Lip Repair and a $50 VISA gift card). I also received Eucerin Professional Repair Extremely Dry Skin Lotion to review and a $25 VISA gift card.

I’ve never tried Aquaphor – perfect timing to hear about it with all my cracked fingers – Thanks!

Don’t you HATE cracked fingers? I’ve tried everything, including neosporin and bandaids when I go to bed. Aquaphor seems to be helping. Good luck!

I’d love to win the 3000$ because we have six people in our family, to outfit in winter gear! On top of that, I will begin skiing again soon, after five years of being in the lodge. I learned to ski just year after my amputation surgery, and enjoyed the slopes for two years, while we lived in Utah. Then we moved to NY and the snow and family conditions kept me from skiing even once. Now that we’re back in CO, I can’t wait to be on the mountain again, but have no gear to use. With the prize, I’d finally buy ‘the mama’ some decent ski gear and accessories. I can’t wait to be out there again, and not just organizing the pictures my husband and kids bring back from their ski adventures!

Oh the things I could buy with that money! LOVE REI 🙂 We could use some new base layers, some new ski socks… I’d have to outfit my little one, my niece and my nephews is their winter outfits of choice! Maybe some new skis for mama, much needed! Thanks for sharing the contest… I’m definitely entering that one!

Wow! What an opportunity! We LOVE gear here and have a couple things I would love to get for us (including some soft shell ski pants!) However, I also know A LOT of people right now that need gear bad to get their families outside and I would love to be in charge of handing that out (thanks to REI and that money!)

Also, we LOVE Aquaphor! It is the ONLY thing that protects our kids’ faces and all of our hands from the harsh wind and winter conditions!

I would love to win the 3k. Maybe I would buy bikes or something. I am sure I could figure something out. As for the Aquaphor giveaway, we love Aquaphor. It is the only thing we use for my son and his diaper. It is the best at preventing/curing diaper rash. I use it too on knees and elbows. Great stuff, so may uses.

What a treat! With $3000(!) I’d get new skis, etc. for my husband and me, and probably a new shell–mine’s getting a bit ratty. Snowshoes would be fun too!

$3,000 at REI would be awesome. We’re pretty well outfitted for winter, but could definitely use some new camping gear. And with young kids we will need new winter gear soon of course!

  11. Alyssa Erickson says

    February 15, 2012 at 1:29 pm

Oh, I’d start by buying my husband new skis! The probably a new bike with petals for my soon to be six year old.

  12. Nola says

    February 15, 2012 at 1:42 pm

Such a great opportunity! I honestly don’t know what I would do with $3k worth of gear from REI. I’d probably start with some much needed essential base and mid layers and gloves and socks for the family, then I’d outfit the little feller with winter clothing that will last till he’s all grown up. And depending on what is left, hopefully a pair of new skis for each of us. But we could all go for a set of snowshoes too!

Thanks for sharing this wonderful opportunity!

We love Aquaphor at our house and have used it for years!
As for the $3,000 prize, it might cover an endless supply of mittens/gloves for my 8 year old son. He seems to lose one of the pair each ski trip. =)

    • braveskimom says

      February 16, 2012 at 8:06 am

Sounds familiar. I hate to say this, but I’m not sure it gets any better. Maybe not always mittens, but we’re always losing something! Good luck!

  14. Linda Williams says

    February 15, 2012 at 10:08 pm

I love REI! The first thing I’d get would be a new pair of skis! Then since I’m getting into backcountry skiing, I’d probably outfit myself with some necessary gear (beacon, probe, backpack….) and if there’s anything left over I’d pick up a new set of base layers and a new jacket. I’m crossing my fingers! 🙂

$3000 would be a huge help. We took the past 2 years off from getting ski passes for our family. It’s back in the budget for next season and we can’t wait. I have 2 girls that need to be outfitted head-to-toe for skiing. They have outgrown everything we had. My hubby needs new ski pants, and I’m due for some ski boots.
I love reading your reviews. Copper mountain is not far for us, and we are excited to try it out. It’s always helpful to hear from others playing in the great outdoors with their children.

    • braveskimom says

      February 17, 2012 at 8:09 am

Skiing is stupidly expensive sometimes, isn’t it? Keep in mind, Copper has some of the best deals anywhere in Colorado — both for passes and 2-4-1 tickets from Shell gas stations. Fill up and get a coupon. Good luck!

I have been snowboarding for five years, but my buddy and I decided to try to teach each other how to ski, like we did in our freshman year of college. Wow, how different! We picked it up much faster than boarding, and it’s a lot of fun. My prize would buy a full skiing setup, as well as ice climbing gear. I have old school ice axes, boots and crampons and if I could upgrade everything to the current century, that would be awesome!

    • braveskimom says

      February 17, 2012 at 8:07 am

As a ski mom, I am happy to hear how much you enjoy two boards instead of one! :0) Current century climbing gear sounds like a good, safe investment! Good luck.

Fun to think of shopping at REI! We would probably get coats for growing boys, and hiking boots and a tent for all that cub scout camping. We are currently using a very old tent. 🙂 We used Aquaphor for Derrin’s cheeks when he was a baby, so already know about this product!

Thus is such a timely topic – we recently discovered Aquaphor Healing Ointment when our baby son developed a bad case of eczema all over his little face – it was red, scaly, and itchy. We asked a nurse what she would suggest and she told us they use Aquaphor in the hospital nursery, so that was a good enough recommendation for me! I’m happy to report that his skin is so much softer and smoother now, and he’s a happy boy! We are looking forward to out first ski trip as a family with his “big” sister next year and we would love to use the prize money to outfit the kids. Thanks, Brave Ski Mom and Eucerin!

With $3000 in gear from REI I would by an entire set up for my 11 year old mentoree. She and I have been hanging out through an organization called Partners in Routt County for almost 3 years. (similar to Big Brothers/Big Sisters). She’s had a rough go of it for her short little life, but every day she makes huge strides towards becoming a well-rounded, smart, happy little girl.
I think outdoor sports are an important part of any child’s development. Teaching them the importance of exercise and getting fresh air, while also learning to accomplish new goals.
My 11 year old friend just recently started snowboarding with SOS (Snowboard Outreach Society- which donates gear and teachers), and has fallen in love with the the sport. It’s an important outlet for her to forget about her troubles and realize what an amazing little girl she is. It’s the best feeling in the world when she reports back about her most recent improvements. I know that she is beginning to understand what a strong, independent person she is; and the more time she spends around people who tell her she can accomplish anything, the more confident she grows.
I would love to see how far she can go with her own snowboard set up and the ability to get out on the slopes whenever she wants.

As for me, I could easily spend $3000 just on Aquaphor, especially the healing ointment. I use it probably 10-15 times per day. I carry the mini ones in all my purses and coat pockets. I have one large one in my bathroom and one large on in my kitchen. I think I would go insane if there wasn’t a tube of healing ointment within reach!

I love Aquaphor! In the winter my hands and feet get very dry because of the Wisconsin winters and I use this product all the time! It works very well!! $3000 to spend at REI would be great for outfitting my kids!

I think my daughter’s pediatrician first recommened Aquaphor for her cheeks and her chubby rolls back in 2006 when she was a newborn. Now she is a skinny 5 year old, but we still use Aquaphor on her face in the winter. I use it on my feet before long runs, and on my back. As a distance runner and triathlete, I have all sorts of places prone to chaffing, and it does the job! We just got back from skiing in Utah, and I was everyone’s best friend since I had my Aquaphor on the slopes, which was perfect for chapped lips and windburn. I put it on my neck!
$3000 would be AWESOME at REI. We spend just about as much money at REI as we do on groceries, and with kids that outgrow their winter gear every year, it would be a huge help to get us out there skiing again next year. This year’s trip just about broke the bank! We’ve managed to ski every year since we have been married in 2003, even with the kids (3 and 5), but this was our first year in 4 years that we made it back to Utah. I saw TONS of aquaphor ads at Brighton and Snowbird!

I would spend it on new ski gear for my finance and me. He just tried skiing for the first time this year and LOVED it. I’m so excited that we can share this passion of mine. The only problem is that, naturally, he doesn’t own any gear. He had to RENT snow bibs! I hope I win the sweepstakes so my hunny doesn’t have to wear rented pants next time we hit the snow.

I’d spend the $3000 on new boots to get myself out of the horribly painful ones I have now! After that, and new skis and new coats for myself and my boyfriend, I’d probably pickup hats and mittens for the children’s clothing drive at work. 🙂

First, we love Aquaphor because my daughter has eczema, my son has dry skin, and it is just good to use on our baby’s skin especially during the winter. I would love to win the $3000 to buy some camping equipment. My husband keeps saying we should go as a family, so this would be great!

I found this works perfect for my 8 year old son who has excema. I found it after going to the pharmacy with a prescription that was over 800 for a tiny tube! Got this stuff and it works wonders! 50 bucks would sure help with the cost because he goes threw a lot of it 🙂

I love Aquaphor! My daughter is now used to asking for it for on her lips. I keep a small tube in my pocket all the time!

I would love to win the $3000 worth of winter gear. I live in Colorado and grew up in ND, so I love my winters:) I would love to be able to get gear for me, my husband and my almost 4 year old daughter so we could take advantage of the great Colorado mountains!

I love Aquaphor products! Was introduced to them by my dermatologist when I developed eczema last year. As far as spending the $3000 at REI – no problem. We can always use new hiking boots, running shoes, warm coats, or rain gear. Thanks for the opportunity!

It would be a good problem to have, wouldn’t it? $3000 at REI?
