Do you remember the first time you saw a Buff?
I do. My husband discovered a short video showing the many, many ways to wear a simple tube of lightweight fabric.
Over the next few years, he mastered nearly all of the Buff positions: using it as a neck gaiter when skiing, wrapping it around his head to absorb sweat from his bike helmet, forming it into a balaclava to protect from the cold when cross-country skiing.
Here’s the original 2009 video that sold him on Buff.
My how times have changed.
Beyond the Basic Buff
Buff USA has moved beyond just a simple tube of lightweight fabric, although it’s still a very popular product.
Now you can find Merino Wool Buffs, knit headbands for winter, UV headbands for summer, myriad other products like bandanas, balaclavas, fishing gloves, beanies, knit scarves and, of course, the original Buff and the Polar Buff (a buff lined with polar fleece). Colors and patterns range from solids to abstracts to (my favorite) National Park inspired prints.
Without a doubt there are Buffs for everyone.
For winter, I’m loving the Merino Wool Buff, both as neck gaiter for UV protection when hiking on less cold days, and as a neck warmer when skiing. Just like the regular multi-functional Buff, the Merino Wool Buff can contort to almost every need, including a bad hair day rescuing head band.
For really chilly weather, the Polar Buff, lined with Polartec 100 fleece and nine inches longer than the original Buff, is a great choice.
Finally, check out the wider-than-average Knit Headband. Perfect for trail runs, hiking, or under your ski helmet for extra warmth, the Knit Headband protects your forehead from sun and snow. Lined with fleece, it doesn’t itch and it stays put comfortably. Plus it comes in 14 beautiful designs.
All three of these items cost $32 or less, making them great gift options for family and friends. There is a full line of Men’s Buffs and Junior Buffs, as well.
And just for fun, here is a recent video. It’s more professional, but still clearly shows all the ways to wear a Buff.
